The Journey Project is a creative teaching plan I developed using the eight different characters from The Journey Story as a basis to explore Mental Health in different learning environments. Each of the eight modules begins with the introduction of the character, discussion of the theme and then is followed by a creative art making activity using different materials. This year (2021) I have taught it in two schools in NZ and The Cook Islands. The project not only enables opportunities to learn skills and strategies for staying well through the difficult times in life, but also encourages creativity and builds confidence.
New Zealand has the highest youth suicide statistics in the OECD and through The Journey Story and the teaching of this project I would like to help change that.
