Whaingaroa is the maori place name for Raglan, one of my favourite places on the west coast. In particular I love Whale Bay, with the dark volcanic rocks and wild surf. The ship represents the early settlers coming to New Zealand and the tuis looking on represent the maori inhabitants already living in NZ. Watching the arrival of the ship to their land and all that this could mean and the changes it would bring is often what happens to us in life. Situations beyond our control cause a response in us. How we choose to respond to any given situation in life is our choice.
