'Return of the Huia' SOLD
750mm x 900mm
The Huia belonged to an ancient family of wattlebirds found only in New Zealand. Above all species, the Huia was the most sacred among Maori, with the birds' white tipped tail feathers worn only by the Maori Chiefs. Demand for their feathers and for stuffed specimens became great after the arrival of the Europeans, hastening their demise. This painting is about acknowledgement and contrition.
