Jessica Newman - Artist
I journeyed to New Zealand aboard the Ocean Monarch when I was four, acquiring a new identity as ‘pakeha’ and growing up in an environment rich in the culture of the Tangata Whenua.
My work, heavily influenced by my English and Spanish bloodlines and my connection to this land, combines symbolism of both European and Maori to revisit stories in contemporary Aotearoa.
My use of design, colour and balance culminate to create harmonious, delicate and enchanting artworks inviting moments of quiet contemplation.
My training has been a combination of part-time tuition ( Waikato), tertiary fine arts study ( Elam, Auckland) and 7 years as a professional artist.
